Striking the ground

Make sure when you’re Nordic Walking on the flat that you are striking the ground with your heel first and with a straight leg.  Bending at the knee on impact can cause problems to the joint over time.  This excludes the downhill technique whereby a slight soft knee is recommended.

POLE INFORMATION
As mentioned to my New Nordic Walkers, here is a good site to purchase your new poles https://nordicwalking.co.uk/products/2/  You can also get poles from other websites too so it’s worth checking.  Most shops only sell Trekking poles so it is unlikely you will see any Nordic poles on the high street.  Make sure they are Nordic Walking poles and not trekking poles as the full technique requires the hand strap only supplied with Nordic Walking Poles.  Please let me know if you need any advice.
Thanks.

Your Health & Fitness

Walking once a weekis good but you won’t see too many changes with your fitness and health. On the days you’re not Nordic Walking, consider taking a brisk 20 minute walk. The benefits are tremendous!

Hi Walkers,

Another great week of walks and for those who haven’t been in a while; it’s so encouraging seeing you returning to Nordic Walking.  Welcome back.  We have had some great Taster sessions this past Saturday, and now the courses are full too, so I think the word is out about the many benefits of Nordic Walking.   Woohoo!

INJURY
I have managed to aggravate my calf muscle strain further during the last Taster yesterday and felt a distinct pop in the muscle.  I will therefore have to rest it this week in order for it to repair.   All the walks will go ahead as usual thanks to my wonderful Walk Leaders and helpers.  Thanks, Gordon, Denise, Paul, Caron and Barbara for your assistance.

Week commencing 7th January 2019

Hi Walkers,

Nordic Walking week commencing 7th January, 2019

Well, what a great start to 2019!   So many of you came along to classes this first week of the New year and it was fab to see the effort and determination.

The Striders really flew around the 5 mile route on Saturday morning and we will do this again for sure.   Seeing record numbers attending both Thursday and Saturday classes this past week is so very encouraging.  It means you are starting the year on the right foot (pardon the pun!)

We are looking at introducing a Moderate 3 class on Saturdays soon to cater to those inbetweeners who are faster than the Gentle Plus but not quite at Mod 2 pace yet.  This will enable folks to work hard but not over do it and as always, half way through the session, there is the option to switch into another group if you want more of a challenge or if you need to pull back a bit.  Always talk to me or the Walk Leaders if you find you are struggling as we are there to help.  Yay!

I will be needing updates of all your details so I will put the form on the website but also have paper copies with me too. The new forms are a requirement to walk with us so make sure you get one filled out by end of January.  Thanks.

POP UP FRIDAY

10am – Centreparcs circular 5 miler – £6
Starting at the West car park in Ampthill Park, we will set off for the woods and enjoy the sweeping views that surround centreparcs and return. Cuppa at Hub after!

Hi Walkers,

A fantastic turnout this past Christmas week!  Well done to all of you who came along and kept up the momentum through the festive season. Great stuff!

I’ve been running Walk2Fitness for over 8 years now and 2018 was by far the most successful as far as new walkers starting Nordic Walking and also for the amount of walks we did including those further afield and abroad!   It’s thanks to all of you for continuing to come along to the walks and of course, my wonderful walk leaders who make it possible to offer the varied walks we do.

So, A MASSIVE THANK YOU to all of you, who make up the Walk2Fitness family for your continued support and friendship.  I’m looking forward to making 2019 the best year yet with many new challenges and fun walks with you all; so watch this space!

I will provide you with a list of our walking challenges in the new year.

Week commencing 3rd December 2018

Nordic Walking week commencing 26th November, 2018

Hi Walkers,

So happy to see so many of my walkers at the Santa Stroll today!  Thank you for coming along and making it such a fun event.  A Massive thank you to Gordon for helping get the route marked up this morning and Peter, Martin, Denise and Barbara for being great marshalls! Couldn’t do this without you all.  I also must thank Bev and her marvellous carol singers who really made this feel so festive.  Not forgetting Enza and June for their lovely stall.  Thanks everyone.

This coming week we have some mixed weather so make sure you wear the correct shoes/boots.  If it is heavy rain I will cancel due to the slip hazard with surface water, and I will endeavour to get an email out at least 45 mins prior to the class.  The very latest updates regarding cancellations are put on the website www.walk2fitness.co.uk so definitely look it up before you leave for your walk if in any doubt.

CRANFIELD CHRISTMAS TREE FESTIVAL

I will be bringing our Christmas Tree to the Cranfield Church at 2:45pm on Thursday this week to decorate.  I have a lot of the decorations you did last time so we can use them and as the theme this year is Peace, Lesley and Jean H have made the best Doves to put on the tree too.  Thanks guys.  If any of my Cranfield Bunch are free on Thursday afternoon, it would be great to see you.  Cuppa at Oso’s afterwards.  Yay!

REMINDERS

WALK2FITNESS CHRISTMAS LUNCH this Wednesday and it starts at 12pm at the Cross Keys in Wood End. This is now fully booked.  Looking forward to seeing you there.

Week commencing 26th November 2018

Nordic Walking week commencing 26th November, 2018

Hi Walkers,

So the earmuffs were needed this week for some chilly morning walks which, although nippy, were nonetheless fab!   It’s great to see the paces speed up as we all try to warm up!  You guys were flying!    As you can see from the picture, this is the industrial blender the Bedford Daycare Hospice was able to purchase thanks to you all.  Well done everyone.

UPCOMING EVENTS

SANTA STROLL

This coming Sunday is our Annual Santa Stroll and it will be great to see you all there.  With options of 2.5k or a 5k walk around the park in Ampthill this is a really fun and festive morning.  Bev’s Carol Singers will be there and there will the beautiful crochet and quilting gifts from Enza, June and Lesley.  The Hub will be handing out soup and rolls to all of the participants after the walk along with hot chocolate and mince pies.    VOLUNTEERS – I will need a couple of marshalls for the Santa Stroll so if any of you can help out, please let me know.  Thanks.

CHRISTMAS HOLIDAY WALKS
