Hi Walkers,

Seeing some fantastic speeds this past week!  With the chilly mornings we all tend to speed up to get warm and it is great to see!  The increase in speed has great health benefits for the entire body;  Increased blood flow to muscles, more calories burned and Heart and lungs work harder and get stronger  Why isn’t everyone Nordic Walking?!

I will be needing menu choices for all the walkers who are coming to the Christmas lunch at The Chequers in Westoning.  The menu will be posted on our website: www.walk2fitness.co.uk.  if you can send me your choices by November 17th, that would be fab. Thanks.

Nordic Walking week commencing 16th October, 2017

Hi Walkers,

What a generous bunch of walkers we have at Walk2Fitness! We raised £160 from the Children In Need Countryfile Ramble on Saturday and from your kind donations. Thanks you all so much. It was perfect conditions for a walk and seeing all the autumn colours in the woods made it a real treat of a walk.

Our Woburn Pub Lunch was as good as always and seeing the Deer, Black Squirrels and Red Kites made it real nature walk. The Green Man is a fave of many of us and the lunches didn’t disappoint. A lovely morning, thanks for your company.

We had a great group attend the British Nordic Walking 10k Challenge in Black Park today and not only did our Walk2Fitness Walkers WIN the Fastest Team with Helen, Paul, and Howard clocking fab times, Paula won the overall Fastest British lady Champion 2017 again this year! Week commencing 9th October 2017

Nordic Walking week commencing 9th October, 2017

Hi Walkers,

Autumn is definitely here and what a great season for Nordic Walking.  The fresh mornings and awesome colours make this one of my favourite time of year for walking.  With the falling leaves we have to take extra care on the trails due to hidden hazards like roots and uneven ground.  If you don’t yet have a pair of waterproof walking shoes or boots, now would be the time to get them.

PUB LUNCH WALK — WEDNESDAY 11th October – Gentle Walk

Because we didn’t get many takers for our Cotswolds trip I’ve decided to cancel it.  We will however do a Cotswold Walk & Shop in late November to enjoy the Christmas offerings there.  Instead we are going to do a Gentle paced walk from Woburn to Eversholt which is 3 miles through stunning scenery. We will then partake in a hearty lunch at The Green Man.  I will be sending out the menu to you before Wednesday for you to pick your choices.  As this is a linear walk I would ask you to park at The Green Man in Eversholt at 10:45am.  We will then ferry you to the start in Woburn.  Please Book onto this walk via the website or text. £6. Thanks.

COUNTRYFILE RAMBLE FOR CHILDREN IN NEED – £6 –

The Ramble will be a 5 miler from Ampthill Park West Car Park and walking around the Centreparcs perimeter. ALL proceeds raised on this walk will go to Children In Need. Tea & filter coffee at the Hub at the end of the walk is on me. Thank you.

Black Park Challenge 10k – 15th October

Come join us for this great 5 or 10k challenge next Sunday!  You have to Register by tonight as entries close.  Go to https://britishnordicwalking.org.uk/pages/events  Open to all speeds and just a great fun walk.

POLES

It is preferred that all walkers use Nordic Walking Poles instead of Trekking poles.  To benefit from the full Nordic Walking technique you do need the specially designed strap that accompanies Nordic Poles.  For any advice on poles, please ask.  One of my walkers has a nearly new pair of Leki Prestige poles with brand new paws that are for sale for £50 if anyone is interested.  They retail at over £70 plus delivery, so this is a great deal.

NORDIC WALKING CLASS COSTS:

All evening classes – £5
Moderate & Gentle Plus – £5 or £4 if you have your own Poles

Hi Walkers,

What a busy, fun week we’ve had! Thanks to those walkers who came to the POP UP Macmillan Cake Walk on Friday. Such a fun morning, lovely start with refreshments at The George, a lovely albeit muddy in bits, walk to The Hub in Ampthill where we had more yummy treats at the end. A great way to start the weekend.

Today we had the London Bridges Challenge for Diabetes UK. The pace was fast this year which might have something to do with the promised Pub stop at the end! A great achievement and lots of fun was had by everyone. Thank you to all the walkers who came along; I really enjoyed your company and I’m already looking forward to it again next year!

Black Park Challenge 10k – 15th October

This is the last of the 10k challenges from British Nordic Walking. There are a few of us going down to Black Park, Buckinghamshire for this fun event, so if you would like to join us, please let me know. Car sharing available. Our Paula has already retained her crown from last year by winning three of the four 10k events this year, so it will be great to see her get her prize for overall Fastest Lady. This challenge is for all speed of walker, so come along and join in. You get a medal at the end and as I mentioned before, pretty amazing bacon butties! You can Register on the day or by going to https://britishnordicwalking.org.uk/pages/events

Nordic Walking week commencing 25th September, 2017

Hi Walkers,

Thanks to all the walkers who took part in The Memory Walk today in Bedford.  You certainly had a beautiful day and a lot of fun if the pictures you sent me are anything to go by.  Nice to see Kevin Whately again this year with our walkers, hoping he didn’t call the poles skiing sticks again this year!  Well done all.

New Nordic Walking Graduates!

I’d like to welcome all our Newbies who have just completed their Technique course. They are: Ian, David, Jan, Kieran, Sue B, Sally, Steve A, Ann, Penny, Colette, Sarah, Steve, Lynne, David, Kay, Rani & Caroline.  Welll done all of you.  We look forward to seeing you all on the walks!

Pop Up Friday 29th September, new start location.

The George Inn in Maulden is having their coffee morning early so I thought we would have coffee/tea (cake) there to start with and walk to The Hub in Ampthill Park where there is another Macmillan Coffee morning to finish.  Therefore, if all walkers wishing to attend this Pop Up Cake Walk could park at The Hub car park, Ampthill at 9am, we will then transfer you to Maulden for a nice cuppa before the start of the walk.  This is approximately a 5.5mile walk with lovely views most of the way but undoubtedly the best company around! Cost £6

Nordic Christmas Lunch – Thursday 14th December!

This year we will be having our Christmas lunch at The Chequers in Westoning again as it was so great last year.  Spaces are limited to 26, so please let me know as soon as you can if you wish to attend.  They need a £10 deposit per person and you can give this to me or any of the Walk Leaders.  I’d like to get numbers confirmed by October 20th if possible.  Thanks Guys.(weird to be thinking of Christmas so early?!)

NEW BEGINNERS COURSE – Saturday, 7th October – Ampthill Park

Please tell your friends and family about the New Beginners course starting soon.  Yay!

Nordic Walking week commencing 18th September, 2017

Hi Walkers,

Great to see so many old faces returning to the walks.  With summer behind us, this is a fab time to re-focus and get back into your fitness as we look forward to a great Autumn season of walks.  We will be doing some new walks too this season and my Walk Leaders and I are busy finding some great new routes for us to enjoy.  Some more challenging than others!  I’ll look forward to seeing you all out there on the trails!

LONDON BRIDGES CHALLENGE
Could all walkers who are taking part in the London 12 Bridges walk, drop me an email or text just so I know who is coming and then I can get organized with timings to meet at Flitwick station on the day.

Macmillan Coffee Morning – Friday 29th September
We have been invited to The George Inn, in Maulden for their coffee morning raising funds for the Macmillan Charity.  Therefore, I will be doing a POP UP WALK that will have us finish at the pub.  This will be a linear walk from Ampthill of approximately 5.5 miles. If everyone leaves their car at The George Inn at 9am we will ferry everyone to the start of the walk at The Hub in Ampthill.  The walk should take around 1 hour 45 mins. Please book by 27th September. Cost: £6.  Thanks.

Cotswold Day Out – Wednesday 11th October
This will be a fun day out with a Gentle walk in and around Bourton on the Water and Stowe on the Wold.  Arriving mid morning we will have a stroll from Bourton on the Water to the Slaughters where we will have a warm cuppa and cake.  After a mooch around the Mill and then back at Bourton, we will head to Stow on the Wold for lunch and a further mooch around their lovely shops.  This is geared towards the more Gentle/Gentle Plus walkers but anyone is welcome.  Just know it will be at a slower pace.  Cost £10 Please book by 8th October.

Nordic Walking week commencing 11th September, 2017

Hi Walkers,

BRITISH NORDIC WALKING 10K CHAMPION

Our own Paula W has done it again and retained her British Nordic Walking 10k Champion crown! Paula had to win the race today in Swindon in order to secure her title after winning ALL three of the challenges so far. Congratulations Paula! There is one more 10k challenge in the series and this is on October 15th, in Black Park, Buckinghamshire. If you’d like to come along and do the last of the 10k challenges this year, click here to book: https://britishnordicwalking.org.uk/pages/events You don’t have to race, you can just come along for the fun experience and get your medal at the end (and the bacon butties are really worth the effort, I can tell you!)
